Explain yourself...

So, this is my blog. This is a place that I plan to spill my guts on an irregular basis. I imagine this blog will work something like therapy...Very public therapy. The writing here will reflect the stream of my consciousness, which means that it will be entirely self-centered. That's pretty typical of therapy, right? Basically, this blog will represent the way that I perceive the world around me; my thoughts, emotions and experiences.

If you're reading this, I will give you fair warning that the content posted here could occasionally offend your personal sensibilities. If you're a part of my extended circle of family or friends, there could be thoughts or perspectives that are posted here that don't match your general impression of me. (Those of you who know me well will not be surprised at all.) I use strong language, I have strong opinions, I am pretty liberal in terms of political beliefs, I am not religious by any definition of the term, and I am a fan of most things unique, unconventional, and generally nonconformist. [End Disclaimer]

Despite all of my liberal, leftist, agnostic, unconventional and nonconformist tendencies, I am also very sensitive, self-conscious, emotional, romantic, hopeful, and loving. I am a mother and a wife, a lover and a nurturer. I love people beyond measure, because I've always been able to find some reflection of myself in every single person that I've taken the time to know or study. This is true of the most wonderful and inspiring people as well as the truly awful people of the world. We all have something in common, whether we're willing to admit it or not. In fact, that's the primary reason that I'm making this little exercise in self-help public. Despite what you might or might not agree with, I bet that you can find something in the workings of my brain with which you can identify. Maybe my babbling here will give you better insight into my mind, and maybe it can provoke some reflection on the workings of your own mind at the same time.

So, if you're not interested in reading self-centered babble from someone who knows absolutely nothing about anything, then read no more. If you're interested in watching my mind unravel, then here's your opportunity. Let the self-healing begin...

(AND for those of you who know me well, you'll quickly recognize that the title "Unravel" holds another special meaning for me. It's the title of one of my favorite songs of all time.)
